With the revelation that two cats in New York have tested positive for coronavirus, there is concern among pet owners about transmitting the disease to animals.

An Oakland County veterinarian says it is a good idea to protect our pets from the disease.

"If you’re quarantining yourself because you are concerned that you are contagious to other people, you are also contagious to your animals," said Dr. Jacklynn Holifield, a veterinarian at Oakland Veterinary Referral Hospital.

In the video below, she explains that there are things you can do to protect yourself and your animals.

Dr. Holifield tells WXYZ that it is possible for someone who is asymptomatic as well as someone who is showing respiratory illness to pass coronavirus to a pet.

Holifield says she expects both cats in New York to make a full recovery.
