Apparently, my neighbors didn't the memo on this one, cuz they've been lighting them off for WEEKS now.

In case you were wondering, NO - nobody should've been setting off their own fireworks before today, but it's Michigan, so the "pops" and "booms" have been going off non-stop anyways. Also, in case you were wondering, yes - people called the police.

It got so bad, in fact, that Flint Police Operations addressed it on their Facebook page with the following message:

ALL over Genesee County. Please be courteous to your neighbors, friends, relatives and our animals.

In particular, we have many local people suffering from PTSD and related issues.

Please be respectful to all.

Fireworks are illegal right now.

Based on state law, fireworks also are allowed from June 29 to July 4 from 11 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. in celebration of Independence Day. Violation of the ordinance is punishable by a $500 fine and seizure of fireworks.

Along with the actual time restrictions for fireworks, the Consumer Product Safety Commission is reminding people of the safety risks posed by fireworks from home. In 2019, 10,000 people were injured and 12 died as a result of personal-use fireworks.

Orlene Hawks, who is the director of the Dept. of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) in Michigan, said, “If you do plan to shoot your own fireworks, please remember that these are explosives and if they are used incorrectly, can cause irreparable injury and harm. It is vital that we all take every safety precaution possible to protect ourselves and our loved ones.”

Enjoy the weekend, don't be stupid. End of story.
