A bill to raise the speed limits on Michigan roads has stalled for now, meaning that everyone will have to just keep driving 80 illegally.

The Michigan House was a few votes short of passing a package of bills that would have raised the speed limit on most of Michigan's roadways.

The main opposition is that the increased speeds would lead to more traffic deaths.  The other concern was that the roads in Michigan are in such poor condition, they couldn't handle the added stress of faster moving vehicles.

According to ABC12 the following increases would have been included.

  • From 70mph to 75mph on 600 miles of Highway with 80mph in select areas
  • From 55mph to 60mph on 900 miles of roads

For now we'll all just have to drive fast and keep an eye out for police.  Do you think that raising the speed limit is a good idea?
