New legislation could make it a requirement that all Michigan School Buses have seat belts for the kids, but not everyone thinks that they are necessary.

The Pupil Transportation Act would make it a law that all school buses have a seat belt for each kid.  This sounds good in theory, but there are a few problems that could come up.

Making each student wear a seat belt would reduce the number of kids that could actually fit on the bus.  This may lead to more buses running and higher costs for schools.  Plus the fact that there is no actual research proving that seat belts would actually make the bus safer.

Six states already do require seat belts for buses though, should Michigan become the next?  Let us know what you think in the comments below.
