There have been a number of rallies and protests throughout our country over the past few weeks in support of Black Lives Matter. One group of young people have organized what they are calling a "Peaceful Protest" in Grand Blanc for Friday evening.

Newly graduated Grand Blanc High School students, Kayla Shannon, Chloé Gill, Lyric Johnson, and Saniyah Vanover organized the event that's scheduled to begin at 5:30pm. They are asking participant to "join our future leaders (Grand Blanc Students and soon to be alumni) at their PEACEFUL PROTEST". Participants are asked to meet in the parking lot of Kohl's located on S. Saginaw Street and come bringing water, an umbrella, signs and your passion and respect. Also, bring a mask and observe social distancing.

The group states the are "tired...tired of feeling unheard and unseen". Organizer Kayla Shannon told us, "We are organizing because police brutality is everyones problem. We want to bring attention to not only police brutality, but the system of belief that causes these situations." Shannon, who will be attending Spelman College in Atlanta in the fall, went on to say, "We must come together in support of true equality that acknowledges the past faults of this country on black Americans in order to move forward."

Co-organizer Lyric Johnson said she wants this rally to make a difference and impact those who attend. "I want people to realize that there is a system that needs to be changed and it starts with us. I want people to realize that no matter your skin color, gender, sexuality, or any other difference that at the end of the day we are all humans."

The group is set on keeping the protest rally a peaceful and  positive community event. For more information visit the event Facebook page
