YG’s ‘Red Friday’ Mixtape Will Be Released as $100 CD
YG is taking a page out of Nipsey Hussle's Proud 2 Pay playbook. The Compton rapper announced that he will be selling a $100 CD version of his Red Friday mixtape. 1,400 copies are going to be sold at a signing at a pop-up shop in Oakland, which is taking place on the release date (Nov. 25).
"THE WORLDS 2ND $100 CD," he wrote on Twitter. "SUPER FANS & SUPER SUPPORTERS ONLY. Mixtape in - store and signing In #OAKLAND."
The tape will also be available on digital platforms, in case you can't cough up the dough.
YG's music has been a source of catharsis in the aftermath of Donald Trump's election, yet it got a few college football players in trouble. Four University of Louisiana at Lafayette players were disciplined for playing YG's "FDT" in the locker room.
“I am disappointed by the actions that a few student athletes demonstrated,” ULL head coach Mark Hudspeth said in a statement. “The immature behavior of those individuals is not condoned by our program. It does not represent our entire team or the views of the University. We’ve disciplined four student-athletes and are taking steps to educate all of our student-athletes to prevent this from happening again.”
Punishing players for listening to music is pretty ridiculous, but ULL was likely wary of upsetting Trump supporters in their fan base - particularly any donors.
