Two shocking announcements were made at the Flint School Board meeting last night concerning a bigger budget deficit and Flint Northern closing for good.

The original numbers showed Flint Schools with a budget deficit of around $10 Million, but the new CFO Richard Carpenter revealed that it's actually closer to $20 Million.

That news was followed up by the shocking announcement that Flint Northern would close it's doors for good. Northern had closed as a traditional high school last year, but has operated as an alternative school since.

WNEM reports that the board is trying to make some moves to keep students from leaving the district.  One of them includes plans to make a 7th grade academy at Southwestern High School.

The news of a bigger deficit only means more cuts coming to a Flint School District that is struggling to survive.
