We're uber excited that for 'Man Man' and his stand out career at Beecher High School.  Yesterday it was announced that Monte Morris was awarded 'Mr. Basketball' for the State of Michigan.  The Beecher stand out player deserved to be named the best male basketball player in the state.

Morris received the 33rd Mr. Basketball award in Detroit at the Detroit Free Press building.  Morris is now in the ranks of great players from the area and state.  According to MLive, Morris was able to give a couple of words at the press conference.

I want to thank the entire state of Michigan for recognizing me to win this award and it’s a good thing that I brought this back to the Flint community and the entire Beecher community,” Morris announced. “I feel that this is a good thing in my life and everybody else’s life that’s in the community that’s been around me and I’m proud and honored to say that I’m the 2013 Mr. Basketball.

The entire community is very excited for Morris and his latest accomplishment.  His current coach, Mike Williams, even shared some words of excitement about the recent news.

"I’m proud to say that I was able to coach him and I was able to have a lot to do with the success along with all of the other coaches that helped with him and that coached him before me."

"Watching him through the years, I knew he was special. There’s certain things that you can’t teach kids that are God-gifted and he had them then, along with the poise and composure.”

Again, we're excited for Monte Morris for winning Mr. Basketball for 2013.  We hope for the best in his endeavors moving forward.
