Hurley Medical Center is now allowing for more visitors.

When it comes to visiting family in the hospital, it has been very difficult to do just that over the last year due to COVID. Hurley Medical Center is easing up just a little be on their policies according to an announcement this morning.

The updated visitation protocol for Hurley Medical Center will now allow for two designated visitors for all adult, non-COVID patients. However, patients are only allowed one visitor at a time in the room from 9 am until 1 pm and 4 pm until 8 pm. Pediatric patients are allowed two adult designated caregivers and obstetrical patients can have one adult designated visitor throughout their stay. Adults in outpatient areas are only allowed one adult companion.

All visitors will be subject to screenings for symptoms of respiratory illness when they enter. Visitors are also asked to remain in the patient's room for the whole visit, required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. No children under 17 years of age will be allowed to visit except under exceptional circumstances. Also, family meetings and end of life situations can be exceptions to the rule when arrangements are made with the Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse.

It is great to see the visitation protocols starting to relax. I have several friends that have run into problems seeing family members that were or are sick in the hospital and the level of stress that comes from that is a lot. Most people rely on family when they are sick to help them feel better.
