Meijer has announced that it will shorten its hours of operation and make special accommodations for senior citizens, those with chronic health issues, essential service workers, and its employees.

Beginning today (3/20), Meijer stores throughout the US will close at 10 pm and open at 8 am. In addition, stores and pharmacies will provide dedicated shopping hours as follows:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 am to 8 am for senior citizens and those with chronic health issues.
  • Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 am to 8 am for medical workers, first responders, law enforcement, and Meijer employees.

Meijer President and CEO Rick Keyes says the move will give employees more time to clean and restock.

“These are unprecedented times that require appropriate action to ensure we are supporting the communities where our customers and team members work and live,” Keyes said. “Our adjusted store hours will ensure all of our customers have access to the products they need in the cleanest shopping environment possible.”

Meijer says its new hours will be in effect for the foreseeable future, as its customers and employees cope with the coronavirus pandemic.
