Retired Flint Teacher Making Masks for Music Endowment Fund
Great people doing great things in our community - let's see if we can help her out!
Sue Miller started teaching music at Carman Ainsworth schools in Flint back in 1997. One of her 5th grade students was Kyle Hart; she had just started to learn how to play the baritone when she passed away at the age of 10 right after Christmas in 1999.
Sue decided to ask Kyle's mom, Joy, if she could start a fund in Kyle's memory that would help to put instruments in the hands of kids who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it; she had recognized the need for this and wanted to make sure that kids who wanted to learn how to play an instrument were able to, regardless of financial constraints.
And that's when the Kyle Eileen Hart Endowed Music Memorial Fund was started.
Thanks to all the music folks who have been purchasing masks to support the Kyle Eileen Hart/Marion Dale Lage Endowed...

Over the years, it's helped put instruments in the hands of hundreds of kids who have passed through the Carman Ainsworth school district. The instruments become property of the district and are cleaned and re-loaned out after students are done with them.
When Sue's mom passed away in 2017, she changed the fund to an endowment; her goal is to reach $100,000 so that the interest can be used to purchase new materials and they won't have to constantly fundraise.
When the pandemic hit, Sue realized that a lot of students that she's worked with were now working in healthcare and didn't have the proper PPE. So, she started making masks to help fund the endowment.
Sue is currently looking for more businesses to carry and sell her masks; if you'd like to purchase a mask (or two, or ten), you can do so locally at Indulgence Salon on Bristol Road in Flint or at the Holly branch of The State Bank.
She's reached the $60,000 mark and is looking for any and all the help that she can get. She joked that she'd only have to make 8,000 more masks to reach her goal...maybe we can help her get to that goal without that many masks?
The holiday season is just around the corner. Do you need a mask? Would you like to support a really great...
