Swartz Creek Elementary School Closes Amid Coronavirus Outbreak
Swartz Creek Community Schools has temporarily closed one of its elementary school buildings after several staff members have tested positive for coronavirus.
Dieck Elementary School will be closed on Thursday, October 8 and Friday, October 9 for a deep cleaning procedure.
School Superintendent Ben Mainka addressed the situation in a letter that was distributed to families.
“I am very sorry for the inconvenience, but we need to ensure the safety of our staff and students is at the forefront during this time,” Mainka said.
Mainka anticipates that Dieck Elementary will reopen on Monday, October 12.
“The positive news is that we have had zero cases of COVID-19 among our students and all of our kids are doing a great job managing their masks and doing what they can to prevent the spread of germs," Mainka wrote. "We will continue to monitor this situation closely, and Principal Prieur will be following up with more information on logistics.”
Swartz Creek Schools have recently deviated from the norm by not requiring Kindergarten through fourth-grade students to wear masks in the classroom.
