New legislation signed by Governor Snyder will let Michigan stores ship wine right to in-state customers using carries such as FedEx or UPS, but will ban out-of-state retailers from sending beer and wine to Michigan customers.
Since 1966 the Michigan beer tax has stayed at $6.30 per barrel. The new tax increase will raise the tax to $21.70 per barrel. The revenue from the new tax would go towards state recovery programs, additional police departments that would tackle underage drinking, and drug treatment courts.
