The Party at 17 is Back: 5 Things You Need to Know

Some places are just iconic for Michigan. Michigan and Trumbull in Detroit, the Woodward Dream Cruise, Pictured Rocks, and the 17th Hole at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club. Although most have earned their notable for their distinguished characteristics, good ole' 17 gained fame for one reason. The party.

The hole made its claim to fame for being arguably one of the most famous on the PGA Tour and was most definitely the loudest during the former Buick Open tournament since almost the beginning. From streakers, to pond jumpers, golf cart hijackings, and overzealous fans with chats and yells that could be heard across the sprawling course, 17 was the ultimate party hole.

This year The Ally Challenge is looking to bring back a little nostalgia and some old school vibe to the notorious 17th by providing activities and events that will make it the hot spot during the tournament. Here's a few things to know before you stake your claim on that prime 17th hole viewing real estate.

Taking a great shot to a whole new level for fans, 17 minutes after a birdie is made – a shot down clock will count down and for 17 minutes and the beer prices  will be marked down from $7 to $2. Enjoy your discounted cold one on the Public Porch in front of the 17th skybox for incredible upfront viewing of the green and watch those 'birdies" soar.

The Fan Zone

Appropriately named for a hole that is truly all about the fans, this area on 17 offers a wide variety of activities and events. Look for the McLaren Bunker Challenge, the Ally Chip Off Challenge, as well as a special Kids Zone and Food Trucks.

Club 1957

There's is nothing quite like watching professional golf in style, and that's the experience Club 1957 provides. Situated in the best of the best location, the area is a shared hospitality venue located right on the infamous 17th hole at Warwick Hills and includes full beverage service as well as a lunch buffet and afternoon snacks. Spectators will watch as the pros approach the tee right through the area.

Family Fun Night

The party doesn't have to stop when the tournament play is over, and it's not reserved just for adults! Bring the family out for all kinds of fun. There will be free pizza and drinks for kids under 18 years old, Golf Stations conducted by The First Tee of Eastern Michigan, a DJ dance party, and visits by a PGA TOUR Champions professionals. There will also be plenty of fun for the adults as well including a chance for 3 lucky individuals to shoot for 1 Million Dollars.

Swimming Not Allowed

In case you are considering bringing sexy back and stripping down for a little pond jumping on 17 like the good ole' days....don't. Grand Blanc Township Sargent Scott Theede told us that taking a dip in the cool waters of 17 is still a big no no. The penalty is a 93 day misdemeanor with a fine or time to be determined by a judge. In 2007, a Muskegon man swam across the pond to win a $1,000 bet.  The stunt cost him a week in jail and a $1,200 fine. Not exactly coming out on top.
