A global pandemic makes it perfect timing for this!

The kids and the pros aren't out on the ice very much this year, but that doesn't change the fact that they need to practice. So, two local hockey players have opened the R3 Virtual Hockey Academy here in Flint.

Their facility is located at Flint Iceland Arenas on Elms Road. It's owned and operated by the former captain of the Oakland University Grizzlies, Craig Furstenau, and former Windsor Spitfires player Saverio Posa is the instructor/operating director. Posa is a native of Grand Blanc.

Their website says that "R3 Hockey Academy offers players of all ages, skill-level, and position to be immersed into the world of Virtual Reality (VR) to train and improve their hockey IQ with repetition and cognitive skill development. Leveraging one of many business partnerships, R3 Hockey Academy delivers SenseArena technology in an off-ice training environment that allows each player to Recognize, Read, and React to on-ice game situations."

In the future, the facility may offer walk-ins but, for now, it's by appointment only. And they are very quick to point out that R3 is NOT a video game.

This is a state-of-the-art training simulator that will improve and develop a players Recognition, Reading, and Reaction capability. For that reason, each player needs to perform a system diagnostic session for the system to develop a baseline score and initial report.

You can contact them at info@r3hockey.com or 810-644-2181. They're also planning on opening a location in Saginaw in the near future.
