U of M Cancels Spring Commencement Amid Coronavirus Concerns

The University of Michigan has announced it is cancelling commencement ceremonies due to growing coronavirus concerns.

In the announcement posted to their website, the university says all Spring 2020 commencement activities across their three campuses are canceled. This includes both the large campuswide ceremonies and individual school, college and group recognition ceremonies.

The announcement also addressed final exams stating that exams will be taken remotely and students will not be required to come to campuses for instruction or exams for the remainder of this semester.

“We are canceling all Spring 2020 commencement final exams will be taken place remotely in an alternative format - and students will not be required to come to our campuses for instruction or exams for the remainder of this semester.activities across our three campuses. This includes both the large campuswide ceremonies and individual school, college and group recognition ceremonies. We know that this is very disappointing to many, and we are looking at ways to celebrate 2020 graduates in the future”

The statement  from U of M comes just one day after the Ann Arbor based school said it was suspending in-person classes and  moving to online instruction in efforts to slow the outbreak.

No word on whether other colleges and universities within the state will follow suit regarding graduations or exams.
