Halo Burger Suspends Dining Room Service & Closes One Location

Halo Burger announced some big changes Monday. Effective Tuesday, the Flint favorite will be suspending dine-in services across their restaurants as well as reducing their hours of operations. They will also be closing the Court Street location.

In a news release, the company indicated they will be continuing to serve customers via drive-thru and delivery services, and carry out at select locations, until further notice. Also, they announced the decision to close their Court Street location in Flint Township citing lack of labor as the reason.

In their statement, the company said, "Following an alarming spike in coronavirus cases across Michigan this past week, limited labor availability and public disregard for safety measures implemented within restaurants, Halo Burger concluded closing dining room access was the right move for the brand."

They went on to say, "At Halo Burger, the safety and well-being of our team and our community is at the forefront of our decision making,” explained Rob Kulza, Chief Operating Officer at Halo Burger. “We went through extensive lengths to implement social distancing procedures designed to keep everyone safe and unfortunately what we observed were individuals coming into restaurants and jeopardizing the safety of our team members. Not only does this pose a health risk but is mentally unsettling as well. For that reason alone, we moved to honor our commitment to our people and are closing down dining rooms until further notice.”

Halo Burger, formerly known by its full name Bill Thomas' Halo Burger, is based in Genesee County, and was founded  in 1923. Since then it has become a main favorite of not just local residents, but visitors from around the state.

The company acknowledges the changes the industry is facing during COVID-19 pandemic. The noted that it's not just safety of customers, but their employees that were also a factor in their decision. "In addition to safety concerns, the food and beverage industry is facing a labor crisis that is limiting output of restaurants during this time. Halo Burger has reduced hours and introduced more breaks in employee’s schedules to ensure team members are not being overworked. In addition, Halo Burger is continuing to support employees in need through their Halo Family Fund, paying for groceries, gas and other necessities that support the physical, mental and financial well-being of their team."
