Hard Hitting Action of Vehicle City Gridiron Classic Back at Atwood Stadium
The best of best that high school football has to offer will return to the historic Atwood Stadium to face off again this year.
The Vehicle City Gridiron Classic will take place August 26-27 this year featuring eight powerhouse high school football teams. Started in 2017 as a way to start the high school football season, the event was introduced by Genesee County Circuit Judge Duncan Beagle. The classic was then organized by the Vehicle City Sports Committee.
At a press conference Tuesday, this years 8 teams were announced. This years line-up will feature five Flint-area teams along with three teams from outside of Genesee County.
Kicking things off, and making their 3rd appearance at the tourney, will be Goodrich taking on Frankenmuth. The rest of The Vehicle City Gridiron schedule is as follows;
Thursday, Aug. 26
- 7:30 p.m. – Powers vs. Flushing
Friday, Aug. 27
- 4 p.m. – Grand Blanc vs. East Lansing
- 7:30 p.m. – Linden vs. Pontiac Notre Dame Preparatory
Players and coaches alike are excited to be back on the field at Atwood, which is owned by Kettering University, after taking last year off due to the pandemic. Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson showed his support at the press conference for the big event. He even offered up some workout tips for the players.
Tickets for The Vehicle City Gridiron Classic are $8 per day with the cost covering admission into both games. Children 5-and-under are admitted free. This years tournament will also take time to honor local medical professionals for their all of their hard work during the pandemic.
