Flint Southwestern will soon be the last Flint high school, and they are finally going to get some much needed updates.

The renovations are made possible thanks to a grant of $1.9 Million from the Mott Foundation. There are already many areas of the school that need work, and considering that SWA will be the only high school in the district next year, the repairs are vital.

The planned renovations are listed below, but there may be other areas that need attention after work begins this summer.

  • New security system
  • Rebuilding student & staff restrooms
  • Painting of entire school
  • Updating locker rooms (Lighting, Flooring, Plumbing)
  • Gym floor
  • Remodeling the courtyard
  • Repairing sidewalks
  • Resurfacing the parking lot

The conditions at the school have been an issue for a while now, with some former members of the athletics staff threatening legal action.

The renovations are set to begin in a couple of weeks, and last all summer.
