Over 165,000 pounds of raw ground beef is being recalled by two companies due to possible E. Coli contamination.

Grant Park Packaging recalled 53,000 pounds of beef after 156 people fell ill in 10 states.

According to the USDA's website, the ground beef was produced between October 30 and November 1 of last year:

  • 40-lb. bulk cardboard boxes of “North Star Imports & Sales, LLC. 100% GROUND BEEF BULK 80% LEAN/ 20% FAT” marked “FOR INSTITUTIONAL USE ONLY” with lot code GP.1051.18 and pack dates 10/30/2018, 10/31/2018, and 11/01/2018. (Details here.)

K-2 Foods is recalling 113,000 pounds of ground beef produced between March 26 and April 12 of this year:

  • Two 24-lb. vacuum-packed packages in cardboard boxes containing raw “GROUND BEEF PUCK” with “Use Thru” dates of 4/14/19, 4/17/19, 4/20/19, 4/23/19, 4/28/19, and 4/30/19. (Details here.)

Of the 156 reported cases of illness, 20 people have been hospitalized.

The USDA and the Food Safety and Inspection service website advises all consumers to safely prepare their raw meat products, including fresh and frozen, and only consume ground beef that has been cooked to a temperature of 160°F.
