In a recent press release, the Crim Fitness Foundation Board of Directors has voted to begin planning both a virtual and in-person HAP Crim Festival of Races to take place. Any of the in-person activities will adhere to MDHHS, State Governor’s Office, Genesee County Health Department, and COVID guidelines and gathering restrictions.

“We know in the future we will be able to host the historic HAP Crim Festival of Races that you are used to, which brings the Greater Flint community together to celebrate health and wellness,” said Board Chairperson Mark Yonan in the statement. “This year we will need to make some changes in order to ensure the health and safety of all participants.”

Joe Dimambro, Crim Director of Races & Training went on to note how the race may look saying,

“We know that a safe race will require that people do not congregate before, during or after each race. A two-hour “rolling start” window for the 10 Mile race will allow racers to arrive at a designated time and immediately begin their race. Dynamic bibs will activate each individual’s start time. Plans are to have the 10 Mile, 5 Mile, 5K and 1 Mile race all on Saturday morning. In order to prioritize space for our local community, there will be no elites or USATF Masters Championship events. "COVID safety protocols will be ever changing until the day of the race,” Dimambro added, “so we will continue to be in communication with Governor Whitmer’s Office of Community Affairs as well as the Genesee County Health Department, which ultimately will have to sign off on the races.”

All participants will be required to wear masks within the restricted area until they cross the Start Line and upon finishing their race.

The Crim will still offer a virtual race experience, with the 2021 HAP Virtual Crim taking place during the “10 Days of Crim” this August 19 - 28. Details on that will be released in the near future.
