
Flint’s Chief of Police Resigns and Announces Run for Sheriff
In a press release and letter issued today, Tim Johnson resigned as Flint Police Chief to pursue the Genesee County Sheriff’s seat.
In a letter to ousted Mayor Karen Weaver, Johnson made he resignation effective at noon and went on to thank Weaver for the opportunity to serve the community." I truly enjoyed serving with some of Flint’s finest police officers protecting our community."
Johnson will throw his hat in the ring for Genesee County Sheriff with the election being held November 3, 2020. Sheriff Robert Pickell announced in October he would retire as Sheriff in 2020. Johnson began his role as Chief in February of 2016.
Chief Johnson announced his resignation just days after Mayor Weaver lost her seat to state Rep. Sheldon Neeley. Neely is scheduled to be sworn in on Monday. There is no word on a replacement at this time.
