Despite being one of the weirdest high school football seasons ever, the District Finals have some huge matchups.

The season has been a rollercoaster ride since the very beginning. Players, coaches, and fans all thought there would be no season. Suddenly the MHSAA changed their decision, and a shortened season was born. There were many rules changes, but the biggest was around the playoffs. All a team needed to do to get into the playoffs was complete four games. That meant a lot of teams that have never been in the playoffs, got their first taste of post-season football. Now the true contenders are starting to rise to the top, and the district finals are full of interesting matchups.

The crazy part about the playoffs this year is that there are a fair amount of teams advancing due to forfeit. Under normal circumstances, there is no way a team would forfeit a game in the playoffs, but Covid has changed all that. One of the biggest games of the district finals features Davison, who did not play last week because their opponent had to forfeit.

I personally am thrilled that the players were able to actually have a season this year, but I hope teams continue to be as safe as possible. With Covid cases spiking all around the state recently, no one wants to look back with regret on the decision to play.
