District Championship Schedules For Mid-Michigan Football Teams
The first round of the High School Football Playoffs is in the books, and now we see who will take the next step to District Champion.
The first round featured a lot of teams from Genesee County and surrounding areas, with about half of them moving on to round two. We hate to see our teams get knocked out, but everyone knows that the playoffs are "Win or Go Home" so it's on to the next.
Here are the teams in the Club 93.7 area that we'll be watching this week.
Division 1
Oxford (8-2) @ Lapeer (10-0) Friday, November 2nd at 7pm
Lapeer is hoping to keep their perfect season alive against a very good Oxford team. You'll be able to hear the game live on our sister station US 103.1.
Division 2
Midland Dow (6-4) @ Midland (7-3) Friday, November 2nd at 7pm
I don't think I've been to a better game atmosphere than when I covered the games between Midland and Dow for The Game of the Week. The rivalry is huge, and the fans are absolutely crazy for their schools. The two teams are fairly evenly matched this year, with Midland barely beating Dow earlier in the regular season.
Division 4
Powers (7-3) @ Williamston (8-2) Friday, November 2nd at 7pm
Powers early season struggles, and tough schedule usually pay off during the playoffs. The Chargers are going up against a good Williamston team though, and will need to play a great game to advance. You can listen to this game on our sister station WFNT.
Division 5
Freeland (7-3) @ Swan Valley (10-0) Friday, November 2nd at 7pm
Swan Valley comes into the game with a perfect record and home field advantage. Freeland is playing well, but will have to step it up a notch to take down Swan Valley.
Frankenmuth (8-2) @ Almont (10-0) Friday, November 2nd at 7pm
The Eagles are definitely up to the challenge against a great Almont team.
Division 6
Millington (7-3) @ Montrose (8-2) Friday, November 2nd at 7pm
The football tradition is deep at both of these schools. Both teams have made deep playoff runs in the past, and both are coming off of huge first round wins. This game will truly be a battle of wills. My guess is that it will be a very close game decided by less than a touch down.
Ecorse (8-2) @ Hamady (10-0) TBD
Hamady kept their perfect season alive beating Byron in the first round, but the game was closer than most people thought it would be. The Hawks will have to bring their best to beat a good Ecorse team this week. I think Hamady will use the close first round game as motivation to come out and put it on Ecorse.
District 8
Beecher (7-3) @ Clarkston Everest Collegiate (9-1) Friday, November 2nd at 7pm
The Bucs have proven they can win on the road, and will need to play great to take down Clarkston. If there's one thing we all know about Buctown though, is that they are tough as can be, and are definitely up to the challenge.
